Program Goal

Have Fun, Learn, Improve

Youth Academy 9U – 12U

9U/10U (Academy)
For 7v7, the focus is involving a fun aspect, but is starting to incorporate ‘How to Train,’ methods. An emphasis is placed on skill development at this age using a games-based approach. Incorporating small tactical elements such as roles of 1st and 2nd attacker/defender, combination play (wall pass, take-overs), as well as the use of the US Soccer number system will be the aim

Training:

- 2 trainings per week with an optional Friday session of Street Soccer
Practices will see the players split into smaller groups, with smaller coach to player ratio for effective attention to specific needs
Every week, players will be evaluated by the coaching staff and may move from group to group, based on a variety of factors

Games:
·  Will take place on Saturday mornings, at a variety of locations up to one hour drive away
·  Game day rosters have flexibility, and may change from week to week, depending on the needs and development of each individual player

Technical Priority:
- Overall Individual Mastery of Ball, and Refinement of Techniques (Dribbling, Passing, Receiving, and Shooting)
- Develop Psychomotor Skills (Coordination & Movement)

Tactical Priority:
- Individual Skill Development > Team Development
- Individual Confidence Building (1v1)
- Recognize Roles of 1st/2nd Attacker/Defender
- Combination Play

Playing Time Expectations:
- Playing time is developmentally appropriate; players will play 50% of games
- More than 50% is earned.

Gameplay Methods:
- 7v7 (including GK)
- Build-out-line to promote playing from the back, and working through the thirds, with each player receiving more touches, and more chances for decision making.

Calendar:
Fall (August - mid November) and Spring (February-May)
- Fall and Spring are the primary seasons for the Academy program
Winter (December-January)
- Winter camps and futsal will be offered as an addition if players would like to continue over the break

Tryouts/Evaluations:
If you are interested in joining the Youth Academy, please email pdobbing@lakenormansoccer.com to arrange an evaluation. Official tryouts happen once a year, in May. All other tryouts will be in a practice environment with a specific coach/team.

11U/12U (ENPL, Classic, Select)
For 9v9, we look to strengthen players and their ‘Love of the Game.’ Still there is a large emphasis on the technique of the individual, but a large emphasis will be on improving their small group play in 2v1, 1v2 (emphasis on improvisation), 2v2, 3v1 and 3v3 as well as a special attention going to the psycho-social aspect of the game

Training:
- 2 trainings per week with an optional Friday session of Street Soccer
- Practices will see each team practice with their specific coach for the most part
- Players can be asked to practice with different teams upon agreement between director and coach

Games:
- Will take place on a weekend, and can travel up to two hours away
(except tournament play which could be more)
- Game day rosters are set, but the use of dual rosters/guest players will be prevalent within these age groups to promote player development

Technical Priority:
- Overall Individual Mastery of Ball and Execution of Techniques within the Game
- Develop Psychomotor Skills (Coordination, SAQ, Functional Movements, Landing & Turning)

Tactical Priority:
- Individual Skill Development > Team Development
- Individual Confidence Building (1v1)
- Recognize Roles of 1st/2nd/3rd Attacker/Defender
- Combination Play
- Transitional Understanding
